Several witnesses told police an argument preceded a May shooting in South Dallas that killed a 23-year-old man, an arrest-warrant affidavit said.

Dallas police officers responded just before 6 a.m. May 18 to a parking lot in the 3400 block of York Street, near Elsie Faye Heggins Street, and found a man with a gunshot wound. Police said at the time the man, identified as Curtis Dowell, 23, was transported to a hospital, where he died from his injuries less than 30 minutes after being shot.
