A city jail employee was fired and arrested Tuesday after a detainee reported the jailer sexually harassed her last year, Denton police said.
According to a police news release, former civilian jailer Miguel Mederos, 22, is facing charges of official oppression; a woman reported he sexually harassed her after she was released from the city jail. The woman told police last week Mederos offered her a ride from the jail Jan. 2, 2023 and made several sexual statements during the drive, the release said. The woman said Mederos made sexual advances via text message that night, per the release. Denton police said Mederos was placed on administrative leave upon receiving the report. Following an investigation, he was fired and arrested Tuesday.
“After reviewing evidence and conducting interviews, detectives determined that Mederos, a public servant acting under the color of his office or employment, intentionally subjected the victim to sexual harassment by requesting sexual favors,” the release said.
