A 20-year-old was arrested Monday and is facing charges in connection with the shooting death of his mother over the weekend in Red Oak, according to the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office.
About 12:05 p.m. Sunday, deputies responded to “a report of a deceased individual” in the 100 block of Ridge Oak Drive, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they found Stephanie Easter, 58, with “an apparent gunshot wound.” She was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.
The area was then secured, and the sheriff’s Criminal Investigations division immediately began an investigation. Investigators “developed probable cause” to link Easter’s death to her biological son, Dwight Xavier Jones Jr., authorities say.
